Consumer Unit/Fuse Box Upgrades

Is your Fusebox/Consumer Unit out of date? If you have an Old Fusebox with rewireable fuses, or Consumer Unit with MCBs BSEN 60898 but with no RCD, Its recommended to Upgrade it to the lates Regulations.

The consumer Unit/Fuse Box is the Electric Brain of your House. Its not a fancy thing in your house like a nice Bright Chandelier, or a Fancy Garden Lights…it normally sits at the bottom of the basement or under the stairs, but it doesn’t mean it need to be forgotten as all your appliances and the electrical safety of your Property is relies on.

Behind the Cover you find, Circuit Breakers, RCBOs RCDs that feeds your appliances like Electric Shower, Cooker, Hob, Electric Vehicle Charger, Lights, Sockets,Outside Power or Immersion Heater. Many of these appliances must be Protected with 30mA RCD( Socket Outlets, Lighting Circuits if you have Class 1 metal Light Fittings, Switches, Electric Vehicle chargers, etc..etc... )

The consumer unit provides a safety function, in the case of a fault, it can protect you from electrocutions and fire.

If you have a doubt about the State of your Consumer Unit or if you think it need to be upgraded give us a call and we can guide you to the right direction.

Electric Vehicle Charger Installations

Thinking of changing to Green Power?

Have you ever thought of what does it look like to install an EV Charger? Most of the people would think it just to connect one end to the Consumer Unit and other to the EV Charger. The EV industry is very strict regarding the Regulations we need to follow, it must to have Surge Protection , minimum of Type A Double Pole RCD protection and PEN fault detection.

What is Surge Protection Device…Surge Protection Device is Protecting your appliances (in this case your Electric Vehicle) to get damaged in the event of high Surge.

What is RCD… Residual Current Device is an Earth Fault Detection Device, its operates in the event of earth fault within 40ms, but because in Electric Vehicles there is DC, therefore it need to have a minimum of Type A RCD protection which is for 30mA AC and 6mA DC leakage.

What is a PEN Fault Detection Device… PEN Fault Detection Device is cut the Line, Neutral and Earth at the event of fault, saves you to be electrocuted meanwhile your Vehicle is on charge and you touching it. PEN fault reported 3-400 times a year.

Fortunately most of the Protections are built in the majority of the EV Chargers but no Surge Protections, also 90% of the older Domestic premises hasn’t got an Up to date Consumer Unit( Metal Consumer Unit with Type A RCD with Surge Protection) therefore its common to Install a Separate Small Unit next to your Electric Meter Box either an IP68 unit if its outside or if its inside an IP20 EV unit which has its own Type A RCD (Residual Current Device) and SPD (Surge Protection Device) and the Charger can be fed from it.

OZEV and Manufacture Approved Installer, we can find the best Charger to fit to your Circumstances.
